Over the next 3 weeks, Philadelphia will celebrate two events created to bring more trans visibility to the city of brotherly love.
The first event, Philadelphia's first Trans March, kicks off on October 8, 2011 at Love Park. The March takes place the day before Outfest, which was strategically planned to maximize the amount of folks who are able to attend. Festival Organizer and trans ally Jess Kalup indicated, "This is going to be a fun, celebratory event to recognize all people–trans, gender variant, gender-nonconforming–just everyone." Philadelphia's very own Jack Cooper and Dynasty will be MC'ing the March. Additionally, there will be speaking engagements by Jess Kalup, Ben Singer, and Jaci Adams, as well as performances by Christian Wordz Avavier, Sue Collins, indee, and others. The March starts at 3 pm.
The second event is Gender Reel's quarterly surgery fundraiser, MixTape. MixTape is scheduled for October 28th from 9 pm-1 am. This months MixTape is a fundraiser for DJ Evil v, and features performances by Dynasty, Alize, Jane Cassady, Screwsmart, and many more. DJ Kit will be spinning awesome tunes, and the Lovely Miss Mary Wanna will be hosting. This is MixTape's first Halloween celebration and folks are encouraged to come dressed up. Gender Reel t-shirts and festival tickets will be offered up as prizes to folks wearing the best costumes. Cover: $5-$10. Location: Tritone (1508 South Street).
